Kevin's Therapeutic approach

I would classify myself as an “optimist".  Imparting a positive attitude and conveying a sense of hope, I believe, is crucial, when it comes to attempting to solve life’s problems. Certainly, a (CBT-oriented) “balanced” perspective is helpful in this regard, but if you are able to take a “positive” approach to solving the problems in your life, I truly believe that will help you even more. I will try to foster this type of resource and resiliency within you. I will also (of course) always be open to your ideas and input as to what might be helpful for you, and elicit such ideas in a very client-centered approach as “you are the expert on your own life”.

My approach also includes elements of existential-oriented psychotherapy, including “logotherapy”, developed by psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor: Dr. Viktor Frankl.

I will support you by building a strong and empathetic relationship or “therapeutic alliance” (as therapists like to call it), in addition to employing therapeutic techniques that separate psychotherapy from ordinary conversations with friends and family (that can also, of course, be helpful). Insights from modern (and older) art and popular culture may be employed to assist with your journey towards positive change, especially ones that have significant value and meaning to you.

If deemed appropriate for your treatment, I may also employ Dr. Barry Duncan’s:
Partners for Change Outcome Management System or: “PCOMS”, soliciting your feedback in proven and effective, evidenced-based manner, to aid and ameliorate the therapeutic process.
